Center Line — Police are trying to determine why a woman was walking on Van Dyke Avenue Tuesday night when she was seriously injured after being struck by a car.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 8:56 p.m. at Kaltz Road and Van Dyke. Responding officers found the woman lying in a lane of northbound Van Dyke with serious injuries.
Police declined Wednesday morning to identify the pedestrian or the driver of the car who is being fully cooperative in the investigation.
The injured woman was taken to a local hospital where her condition remains unknown.
This is the second incident of a woman being struck by a car while walking in a busy roadway in Macomb County.
On Monday evening, an 81-year-old woman was killed when she walked in the curb lane of northbound Ryan Road near 13 Mile.
According to Warren police, the incident occurred at about 10:40 p.m. when the woman, who was staying with relatives in Sterling Heights, was struck by a car driven by a 20-year-old Warren man.
Police said one car swerved to miss the victim but then she was struck by a second vehicle that had no chance of avoiding her.
She was rushed to a local hospital where she died.
Family members said the woman suffered from dementia and had walked away from their home without their knowledge.
