A bout with flu and laryngitis caused Rihanna to cancel several tour dates last week, but Thursday's show at Joe Louis Arena is going forward as planned.
The date, part of her "Diamonds World Tour," follows November's "Unapologetic" album. The set, Rihanna's seventh (and fourth in four years), has sold more than 807,000 copies and has produced the hit singles "Diamonds" and "Stay." It was her first album to hit No. 1 on Billboard's Top 200 albums chart.
The tour is Rihanna's third outing in a row to play Metro Detroit. The Barbados-born star brought her "Loud Tour" to The Palace of Auburn Hills in June 2011 and visited DTE Energy Music Theatre in Aug. 2010 with her "Last Girl on Earth Tour."
Rihanna is one of today's biggest hit-makers. Since her debut single, "Pon de Replay," in 2005, she has scored 24 Top 10 hits, 20 of them as lead artist. Of those hits, 12 of them — "S.O.S.," "Umbrella," "Take a Bow," "Disturbia," "Rude Boy," "Only Girl (in the World)," "What's My Name," "S&M," "We Found Love," "Diamonds," "Live Your Life" (T.I. featuring Rihanna) and "Love the Way You Lie" (Eminem featuring Rihanna) — have reached No. 1.
