Brandon Township — A motorcyclist who died from injuries in a crash with a car Wednesday afternoon was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office reported Thursday.
Deputies responded to the intersection of S. Ortonville and Wolfe roads at 3:05 p.m. on a serious injury crash that occurred when the motorcyclist ran into a car coming out of a McDonald's restaurant, according to a preliminary report.
The motorcyclist, Donald Ruks, 58, of Ortonville was traveling north on Ortonville road on a 1999 Honda Valkyrie motorcycle when he hit a 2004 VW Golf vehicle exiting from the restaurant driveway and turning left or southbound on the road.
Ruks was rushed to Genesis Hospital where he later died. The driver of the VW, a 21-year-old Ortonville woman, was not injured.
Alcohol does not appear a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation. Michigan law does not mandate helmet use for motorcyclists over age 21.
