About 10 Detroit elementary school students were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle ran through a yield sign on the city’s west side.
Police said around 4:30 p.m. a gray Dodge Charger traveling southbound on Heyden disregarded a yield sign as a school bus traveled west on Cathedral. The school bus hit the rear of the vehicle and the driver sped off, said Sgt. Michael Woody.
The bus was carrying 30 students from Dixon Elementary. About 10 students complained of minor pain and were taken to the hospital. No one had visible injuries, Woody said.
A short time after the incident police recovered the Dodge Charger in the area and impounded it. The vehicle had significantly more damage than the bus, Woody said. Police have the registered documents of the vehicle’s owner, he said.
Parents were notified and picked their children up at the scene.
