Detroit — A 66-year-old resident of a senior citizens’ apartment building on the city’s southwest side accused in the murders of two female residents Sunday was formally charged Wednesday with their murders Wednesday.
Mike Reda was arraigned Wednesday before 36th District Court Magistrate Steve Lockhart in the double homicide of 59-year-old Deborah M. Socia and Maria Victoria Gonzalez, 61, at the Pablo Davis Elder Living Center in the 9200 block of Vernor near Dix.
Lockhart ordered Reda to the Wayne County Jail after denying him bail. Reda is scheduled for a preliminary examination at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 31 before Frank Murphy Hall of Justice.
Reda allegedly armed himself with a long gun and fatally shot the women just shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.
Reda was arraigned on two counts of first-degree premeditated murder, one count of felony murder, one count of assault with intent to murder, and felony firearm.
The shooting allegedly was spurred by the breakup between Reda and his girlfriend. Reda allegedly blamed the two victims for the breakup. More details about the incident and the case are expected to come out during the preliminary examination in the case.
