Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels (“Precious”) will be the keynote speaker Monday for the 22nd annual Keeper of the Dream Scholarship presentation. Daniels’ latest film is “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” which was released last year.
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day event is being held on the campus of Oakland University.
Since being established in 1993, KOD has provided scholarships of up to $5,000 to students demonstrating strong citizenship, scholarship and leadership abilities.
This year’s five recipients are Raya Hollis of Rochester, Flint residents La’Asia Johnson and Daniel Lewis, Paul Marvin of Howell and Yen Tran, who is originally from Vietnam.
This year’s awards are being sponsored by Beaumont Health System, Keeper of the Dream Foundation, L&L McIntosh Scholarship, OU Credit Union and OU Alumni Association, KeyBank Foundation and Avis Ford.
