Brookfield Township — Authorities say they removed 15 dogs, six cats, three rabbits and a large number of birds from the home of a Lansing-area woman.
The Lansing State Journal reports authorities took the animals amid an investigation into three dead dogs found frozen Sunday in a trash bin behind a shoe store in Charlotte.
Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich says in a statement the dogs belonged to the woman, who lives in Eaton County’s Brookfield Township. Investigators say they believe the dogs were placed into the trash bin up to several days before they were found.
Reich says someone else is believed to have disposed of the three dogs. The woman’s name wasn’t immediately released.
An investigation is ongoing and a review by prosecutors is expected.
