Lance Parrish gives some tips at last year's Wayne State baseball camp in Detroit. (Ricardo Thomas / Detroit News)
Gage’s 140 (words, not characters):
Good for you, Big Wheel.
We knew you wanted back in.
We’ve known for years, in fact, that Lance Parrish hoped to get back into baseball – if not with the Tigers, then with any organization that would give him a chance.
But as the years ticked by – since his last one-and-done, minor-league gig for the Dodgers in 2007 – no team called.
Parrish wondered why.
And still doesn’t know why.
But the emptiness of wondering is over because when the Tigers offered him their Double A managing job, Parrish quickly said “yes.”
While thinking “YES.”
Part of what I like about Parrish being hired is the bridge that’s still connected to the 1984 team.
But what I like about it more is that a good man no longer has to shrug his shoulders and wonder at age 57, “Has the last parade passed me by?”
