Let's fix it
Re: Karen Bouffard’s Jan. 30 report, “Detroit deadliest city for children due to prematurity, violence”:
Sad news, but I am confident this is something that the Duggan administration and the Snyder administration are focused on trying to improve.
David S. Farbman, Bloomfield Hills
Parents at fault
Lack of proper parenting is the number one killer of Detroit youth.
Why is there so much violence? Lack of parenting.
Why are kids dying irresponsibly? Lack of parenting. Plain and simple.
Max Meacham, Hell
Blame the governor
We know what causes poverty.
We know that the way out is is job training, counseling and education, but, what has Gov. Rick Snyder done but cut these services
Jeffrey Willets, Ann Arbor
This situation can be summed up three convenient and common responses to all issues related to Detroit’s disfunction:
You’re a racist for pointing this out.” “It’s the suburbs fault.”
Jeff Bickerstaff, Grosse Pointe Shores
Blame the criminals
While there’s a lot of conversations behind the possible causes of limited health care (including prenatal) all the discussions surrounding the homicide rates throws all the blame on the police without any mention of the criminals running around engaging in senseless acts of violence.
There is only one person that can honestly be blamed in the shooting death of the 12-year-old old boy killed on his front porch: the shooter.
