A dedication ceremony for late Detroit Consortium boys basketball coach Al Anderson will be held Saturday before the Consortium game against Saginaw Arthur Hill.
Anderson died of heart attack at age 40 last February. A bust of Anderson will be unveiled and his name will be installed in the court.
Current Consortium basketball coach Tobias Tuomi said he never met Anderson but “I feel like I know him with all of the stories I’ve heard about him.”
Tuomi said there will be a number of guest speakers, and numerous former players have been invited to attend.
The junior varsity game begins at 3:30 p.m., and the ceremony will take place soon afterward, before the start of the varsity game.
The game features the state’s top player, Consortium sophomore Josh Jackson (6-6), and the state’s top-rated junior, Arthur Hills’ Eric Davis (6-4).
Consortium (12-2) is ranked No. 2 in Class C and Arthur Hill (12-2) is ranked No. 4in Class A.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students.
