Mother accused of drunken driving, child endangerment in Macomb Twp.

Macomb Township — Deputies from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Department were called to Beck Elementary School Thursday when staff members became concerned over the demeanor of a woman there to pick up a child.

According to reports, school officials were concerned that the woman seemed disoriented. Asked if she had been drinking, the unidentified woman said she had consumed “one beer.”

Despite staff members suggesting that she find alternative travel arrangements, the child ended up in the woman’s vehicle. School personnel asked that the child be returned to the school pending alternative travel arrangements, which the woman ignored.

At this point sheriff’s deputies were called, who then ended up arresting the woman for operating while intoxicated and child endangerment.

She was transported to the Macomb County Jail where a breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of .26 percent, more than three times the legal limit of .08.

She was also charged with operating while impaired and high blood alcohol content. The child was turned over the care of a relative.
