Ann Arbor – Penn State’s Casey Bailey beat Michigan’s Zach Nagelvoort with 4.6 seconds left in the game for a 4-4 tie, then David Goodwin won it for the Nittany Lions in overtime, 5-4.
Goodwin, on a 2-on-1 break, fired over Nagelvoort’s shoulder to give Penn State its second Big Ten win; both have come against Michigan.
Before Bailey’s goal, Michigan had gone ahead, 4-3, with 2:02 remaining in the third period on a goal by Alex Guptill. Bailey’s equalizer came as the Nittany Lions pulled goalie Matthew Skoff for an extra attacker.
Other goal scorers for Michigan were Boo Nieves, Phil DiGiuseppe and Tyler Motte – all in the first period.
The Wolverines (14-10-3, 6-6-1-1 Big Ten) return to action Saturday at 7 p.m. against Penn State at Yost Ice Arena.
