Judge orders sanity tests for man in dad's Lansing-area slaying

Lansing — An Ingham County judge has ordered more psychological examinations for a former township official who twice confessed in court to killing his father.

Greg Basolo, 50, of Meridian Township admitted to the killing at a Feb. 12 District Court hearing to decide if there was enough evidence to hold a trial.

On Wednesday, Basolo made another confession, telling Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina he “did murder” his father.

Peter Basolo, 79, was shot Oct. 25 at the Lansing-area condo he shared with his son.

Police said the ex-township assessment review board member told them he was angry because his father re-established contact with relatives who Greg Basolo said sexually assaulted him in the past.

Greg Basolo said he’ll cooperate in an exam to see if he could be held criminally responsible.
