Body found in burned vehicle on Detroit's east side

Detroit — Firefighters made a grisly discovery early Tuesday when they found a body in a burned vehicle on the city’s east side, according to police.

Fire crews were called at 12:07 a.m. Tuesday to the 13900 block of Fleming, near Victoria, where they found a corpse burned beyond recognition in front, driver seat of the vehicle, according to officer Keisha Beasley-Dorsey. Police initially reported the body was found in the trunk.

Police are awaiting autopsy results from the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death and identity.

Detroit police and the Fire Department’s Arson Unit are investigating.
