The man accused of killing a 2-year-old Washington Township boy was found guilty on Tuesday afternoon.
Ronald Anthony Dimambro Jr. will serve a mandatory life sentence on a first-degree murder count, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. He was also convicted on a first-degree child abuse count that carries a sentence of up to life in prison.
Dimambro, 27, of Washington Township was babysitting Damian Sutton Aug. 21, 2013, when he caused blunt force trauma to the child’s skull, according to the prosecutor’s office. Damian was rushed to Children's Hospital in Detroit where he died Aug. 27 after several days in a medically induced coma.
“Nothing will bring little Damian back to us,” Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said in a statement. “The death of this little boy shocks our community. The loss of this tender young life strikes each of us at the heart.
“Justice spoke for Damian Sutton today,” continued Smith. “We hope that this verdict helps bring some measure of solace to his mother and his relatives.”
Dimambro will be sentenced to life without parole on July 17.
