No domestic violence charges for Simon, Brickell
Prosecutors involved in the Norwalk, Conn., domestic violence incident involving musicians Paul Simon and his wife, Edie Brickell, will not file charges against the pair, TMZ reports. The two songwriters were arrested for disorderly conduct in April after a heated argument at home.
All-star 'Ghost Brothers' comes to Fisher Theatre
“Ghost Brothers of Darkland County,” a creepy musical with some big names attached to it, will play at the Fisher Theatre on Nov. 26. The musical’s story was written by horror author Stephen King and T-Bone Burnett coordinated the production. Heartland rocker John Mellencamp wrote the music and lyrics. Tickets for the Detroit date, $39-$70, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
Disney star set to portray Aaliyah in biopic
“Shake It Up!” star Zendaya Coleman has been picked to play singer Aaliyah in a Lifetime television film about the R&B star’s story. Seventeen-year-old Coleman, a singer and actor, was the youngest contestant ever on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars.” She was the runner-up on last spring’s season. Aaliyah, who was raised in Detroit, was killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas in 2001 at age 22. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the biopic is tentatively titled “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B” and is based on her biography, “Aaliyah: More Than A Woman” by Christopher Farley.
'DWTS' dancer hospitalized after car crash
Speaking of “Dancing With The Stars,” Mark Ballas, one of the professional dancers on the show, was struck by a speeding vehicle in his car in Los Angeles on Monday, TMZ reports. He was sent to the hospital after complaining of back pain and whiplash. Ballas, who was partnered with Candace Cameron Bure this season, also suffered a shoulder injury this month during “DWTS” rehearsals.
■Doctors have upgraded comedian Tracy Morgan’s condition from critical to fair this week. The actor was in a massive traffic accident on June 7.
■A new local record label has emerged. Decibel will be an arm of Birmingham-based RMS Sound Studios and aims to help aspiring artists with development, management, recording, mixing and distributing.
