'Ernest & Celestine' form a touching bond

Recent releases for kids, teens and families:

“Ernest & Celestine” (Rated PG for some scary moments, GKIDS, $29.95/$34.95): A bear and a mouse form an unlikely friendhsip in this Oscar-nominated film based on the Belgian book series by Gabrielle Vincent. Forest Whitaker, Lauren Bacall and William H. Macy are among the voices in the dubbed version.

“Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” (Not rated, Fox, $49.98/$59.98): Fox’s revival of the PBS series, hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, received a lot of press for its no-nonsense approach to teaching a variety of scientific principles in ways families could enjoy together. Now the complete season is available in a four-disc set.

“The LEGO Movie” (Rated PG for mild action and rude humor, Warner Bros, $28.98/$35.99): A LEGO minifigure must save the LEGO universe with the help of minifigures from a variety of LEGO franchises, including Batman. Lots of jokes for kids and grown-ups.

“French for Kids: Dedans et Dehors — Inside and Out” (Not rated, Whistlefritz, $19.99): Games, skits and songs teach children 2-7 a variety of French language concepts in the latest from Whistlefritz’s foreign language series.
