Partiers balk when woman returns home, orders them out, police say

Detroit— A 47-year-old disabled woman who returned home Sunday from a medical appointment to find a houseful of her son’s partying friends called police after one of the revelers pointed a gun at her and began smashing things when the woman asked the group to leave, police said.

The incident happened about 5:40 p.m. in the 13600 block of Stoepel on the city’s northwest side.

“The woman left home to take care of a medical concern, and her son’s friends were watching the house,” Detroit police Sgt. Eren Stephens said. “When she got back from the appointment, she heard a noise inside the house. She went in and saw there was a party going on.

“She asked the group to leave, and one of the men got mad and pointed a gun at her,” Stephens said. “He then started breaking vases and other personal items in the house.”

Police are expected to seek charges of felonious assault and malicious destruction of property against the man, Stephens said.

“Pointing a gun at someone is a felonious assault,” she said.

The homeowner was not hurt, Stephens said.
