Pontiac — The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office formally identified the mummified body remains found in March as belonging to a local businesswoman.
Investigators used DNA to identify the body, which may have been sitting for more than five years, as Pia Farrenkopf. She would have been 50 years old.
The medical examiner’s office says the cause and manner of death could not be determined given the condition of the body.
In March, Farrenkopf’s body was found in the rear seat of her Jeep in her garage in Pontiac. The key was in the car ignition but it was turned off and gas remained in the fuel tank.
Relatives said she worked as a self-employed financial troubleshooter after losing her job with a financial firm with ties to Chrysler in 2008.
Farrenkopf's bills were paid automatically through a checking account that once held $54,000.
The money ran out nearly a year before her body was discovered and the home went into foreclosure. A contractor sent by the lender discovered the body.
