Grand Ledge — The Lansing-area community of Grand Ledge is taking steps this summer to repair damage caused by erosion at Island Park in the Grand River.
The Lansing State Journal reports Second Island was once large enough to house a hotel and a roller coaster, but over the years has been subject to natural erosion. Efforts began about 15 years ago to stop or slow erosion and make improvements.
Last month, the city began drawing down the water level under a permit from the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Repairs are scheduled to be made to the south side of the island as soon as the water level falls low enough.
The city plans to take advantage of the lower river level to study the condition of the Grand Ledge dam.
