Grand Rapids — Kent County officials have charged an 18-year-old in the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old last year.
The Grand Rapids Police Department says the suspect was charged Wednesday with open murder and felony firearm in the death of Luis Gonzalez in August 2013. He is set to be arraigned Thursday.
He was 17 years old at the time of the shooting. The Associated Press typically doesn’t identify minors charged with crimes.
Police say the 18-year-old lied to detectives about the murder during an interview in April. He was charged for giving false information during the investigation of a felony and held in the Kent County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bond.
