Independence Township — A Wayne teenager has been released pending investigation of an assault that critically injured a Westland man during a Hank Williams Jr. concert at DTE Energy Music Theatre, investigators said Monday.
The incident took place shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday.
Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies reported the 15-year-old shoved a 55-year-old man to the ground on the theater’s concourse, resulting in the victim striking his head on concrete, causing excessive bleeding.
The teen attempted to flee the area but was restrained by witnesses, who held him until deputies took him into custody.
The victim may not survive, according to doctors. The sheriff’s office said late Monday afternoon the man was on life support at a hospital “in very grave condition.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the family of the victim was at the hospital Monday and spoke with detectives. The prosecutor’s office and the juvenile referee decided to release him pending further investigation to “determine what charges if any may be appropriate.”
