Clinton Township — An early morning mishap has resulted in the electrocution of a Canton Township man.

According to the Clinton Township Police Department, the incident occurred at about 4 a.m. Wednesday at Tower Automotive, located in the 44800 block of North Groesbeck, just west of Gratiot.

“The deceased was unloading metal from a dump truck into a metal bin using controls on the outside of the truck,” Lt. Curt Randall said. “The lift struck a power line electrocuting the victim. It also set the dump truck on fire.”

According to Randall, no one else was injured in the incident, which did not result in a loss of power in the immediate area.

“We are still trying to identify the victim,” Randall said. “All we know for sure is that he was from Canton.”

The body has been sent to the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office.
