Authorities study possible charges in tile death at Menards

Whether charges will be filed in the death of a 38-year-old man at a Chesterfield Township home improvement store may be determined this week.

Police will meet with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday to determine if charges will be filed, said Lt. Brad Kersten of the Chesterfield Police Department.

Richard V. Colletti of Clinton Township was with his wife, Cindy, when a pallet of ceramic tiles fell from a storage shelf and struck him in the head at a Menards store on Market Place Drive in Chesterfield Township on Saturday. His wife was unhurt.

Colletti was taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens. He later died of his injuries.

His family has hired Geoffrey Fieger’s law firm.

Fieger is known for representing assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian and Aiyana Jones, the 7-year-old girl who was killed by a Detroit police officer during a raid.

Colletti’s family has retained the firm to represent it in all legal matters concerning his death, it said Wednesday.
