DETROIT -- Detroit's first lady will be by her husband's side tonight when Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick speaks publicly for the first time since revelations of romantic text messages between him and his chief of staff, The Detroit News has learned.
Despite reports that the mayor will appear alone tonight, Carlita Kilpatrick will join him, according to one of her confidantes, radio personality Frankie Darcell.
"She will be there with him at his side," said Darcell. "She should be -- that's his wife."
Darcell, who has known Carlita Kilpatrick for nearly a decade, said the mayor's wife is "doing amazingly well."
Darcell, who is the host of the Mid-Day Mix on 92.3 FM, plans to have a special live call-in show after the mayor speaks, from 7:45 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
