De Niro, Norton and Jackson to film in Michigan

Robert De Niro )

The summer will be filled with stars as several films gear up for filming in Michigan. Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro and Oscar-nominated actor Edward Norton will star in the film "Stone," which will be filmed in Detroit and Pittsburgh next month, reports the industry publication Production Weekly.

In the film, De Niro portrays a parole officer who befriends a teaching assistant. No word on Norton's character in the film. "Stone" is based on a play by screenwriter Angus MacLachlan. It will be directed by John Curran, who directed such films as the 2007 drama "The Painted Veil," which also starred Norton.

De Niro, 65, and Norton, 39, also shared the big screen in the 2001 movie "The Score."

Another major star coming to Michigan is actor Samuel L. Jackson. According to the Web site www.imbd.com, the yet-untitled film is based on a novella by Joyce Carol Oates called "Rape: A Love Story." Oates once lived in Detroit and taught at the University of Detroit, according to Celestial Timepiece: A Joyce Carol Oates Home Page at jco.usfca.edu/life.

She once wrote, "Detroit, my 'great' subject, made me the person I am, consequently the writer I am - for better of worse."
