Saginaw native reaches 'Sunday Best' finals on BET

Reedy (BET)

If you've been watching BET's gospel talent search "Sunday Best," you know all about Saginaw native Jessica Reedy and her amazing voice.

An alto reminiscent of Billie Holiday or, more currently Oleta Adams, our girl Reedy, 20, has what it takes to become a major recording star.

"I've never been professionally trained, but my whole family can sing," says Reedy, a single mom who got her start singing in her grandfather's church. "Everyone is so happy for me."

This is where you, the reader, come in. Reedy is one of two finalists competing for the "Sunday Best" title, an honor that comes with a national recording contract, a brand new 2009 Lincoln MKS and a prize package for her community.

The "Sunday Best" finale airs 9 p.m. Sunday on BET, and we have to vote for Reedy in order for her to win. Voters can call (877) 701-0141 or go to bet.com/sundaybest to vote online. For details on texting votes, go to the Web site for instructions and fees.

Raj's last day at WDSU was Friday.

  • As more and more TV shows and movies consider Metro Detroit to be the perfect tax-deductible setting full of untapped talent and riches, the producers of "Bewick & Mack" are urging local viewers and media outlets to not forget about the show, which is now entering its 16th episode. A mainstay on Comcast Cable public access since October 2006, producers of the half-hour comedy say it was the first TV show to be produced and filmed entirely in the city and has an all Metro Detroit cast and production staff. • Tune into the hilarious season finale of ABC's "Better Off Ted," which airs at 8:30 tonight on WXYZ-TV (Channel 7). Originally scheduled to air last week, the sitcom was preempted by President Barack Obama's 100th-day address.
