Apparently the idea of tying balloons to your house and floating off to a jungle paradise appeals to the film critics of Detroit.
Imagine that.
"Up," the animated Pixar film about an old man and young boy who soar off on just such an adventure, was named the best picture of 2009 by the Detroit Film Critics Society. Its director, Pete Docter, also won best director.
The film "Precious: Based on the novel Push by Sapphire" scored three wins -- one for Mo'Nique as best supporting actress, and two for newcomer Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe, who won both the best actress and breakthrough performance awards.
The Detroit Film Critics Society is made up of film critics working for newspapers, weeklies, magazines, television, online and radio in Michigan and northern Ohio.
