Michigan Republican officials picked former state representative Judy Emmons to run for the 33rd District state Senate seat.
The Michigan Republican Party said Wednesday that Emmons will replace state Rep. Brian Calley of Portland on the ballot. Calley, 33, was named Aug. 25 by gubernatorial candidate Rick Snyder to run on the Republican statewide ticket as lieutenant governor. Calley recently won the Republican primary for a Senate seat before being tapped by Snyder as his running mate.
Emmons will run against Democrat James Hoisington for the Senate seat. Emmons is an ex-state representative.
Officials from Republican county executive committees in Clinton, Ionia, Isabella and Montcalm counties nominated Emmons for the Senate seat.
