There's still no telling when five-tool Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes will be declared a free agent.

But when he is, the Tigers likely will be eager to discuss a contract.

The Tigers, Marlins and Cubs are the three most-active teams in the Cespedes sweepstakes, Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Monday.

The Tigers have been high on Cespedes, 26, all offseason, but the season-ending knee injury to DH Victor Martinez might've convinced them to step up their interest. If they acquired Cespedes — who is believed to be in line for a deal worth as much as $50 million — he could play left field, and Delmon Young could switch to DH.

Cespedes has been playing in the Dominican winter league playoffs while he waits to be officially declared a free agent. In nine games, he's batted .143 with two RBIs.
