Don't be surprised if around 6 Monday night on WXYT 97.1, you hear a big, bellowing "Happy NEW YEAR!"

A little late, sure. But it's never stopped him before.

Bob Wojnowski, AKA Wojo, is set to return to Metro Detroit radio. The two-hour, drive-time show will be co-hosted by Jamie Samuelson.

"It will be great to be blabbing and whining on Detroit sports airwaves again," said Wojo, an award-winning sports columnist and 20-year veteran of The Detroit News. "After a three-year hiatus, I am ready to have some fun with the fans again."

Wojo has 15 years radio experience, and — with his sarcastic sense of humor, predictions by "Wojodamus" and an unapologetic love of Nutter Butters — was a hit on WDFN's "Stoney and Wojo Show." That show was canceled in January 2009 in a restructuring move by Clear Channel.

His former co-host, Mike Stone, also now works at WXYT.

Wojo's new co-host, Samuelson, has been a fixture on Detroit sports radio. He hosted shows at WDFN for 14 years.

"We are extremely pleased to have Jamie and Wojo join our line-up. They are a natural fit," said Jimmy Powers, WXYT's program directors. "They have been dialed into the Detroit sports scene for many years, giving fans information on their favorite teams. Jamie and Wojo will continue to entertain listeners on their way home from work or to the stadium."

If there is no Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings or Lions game on, the hosts of WXYT's former 6-8 show, Pat Caputo and Dennis Fithian, will be on the air from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Wojo will continue writing his column for The Detroit News.
