Michigan junior guard Eso Akunne will have surgery on his left foot Friday and will be out 6-8 weeks, coach John Beilein said Thursday.
Akunne will have a screw inserted into his foot to help stabilize an injury on his fifth metatarsal. The surgery will be done at the University of Michigan Hospital.
Akunne, who went to Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard High, has appeared in 12 games this season. He averaged 4.0 minutes and 1.7 points.
"We all feel bad for Eso because he has worked so hard to work his way into this rotation," said Beilein. "His attitude, however, is so good that I am certain he will bounce back from this and return to practice as soon as he can."
