Detroit — Wayne County Commission Chair Gary Woronchak welcomed the seven members of the newly formed ethics board to their inaugural meeting Monday.
"This is a day we've been waiting for, for a while," said Woronchak, D-Dearborn, who re-established an ethics task force.
The ordinance addresses several issues, including accepting gifts, employment compensation, conflicts of interest and nepotism.
Retired Third Circuit Court Judge William Giovan was elected chair of the board. Giovan, who served as a circuit judge from 1976 to 2008 and was the chief judge, was the appointee of County Executive Robert Ficano, whose administration has been embroiled in scandals and an FBI investigation.
William O'Neil, a former state representative and Allen Park council member, was named vice chair.
