Berry Gordy's "Motown: The Musical" has racked up platinum sales after its first week of previews on Broadway.
Ticket sales for just seven performances during the week starting March 11 were $1,029,883.00 at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre in New York.
The musical, with a libretto written by Gordy, tells in flashback the story of how he came to found Motown in Detroit, with a romantic subplot about his relationship with Diana Ross of the Supremes.
The musical features many songs from Motown's wealth of original hits, as well as three new songs co-written by Gordy. Previews continue throughout March, and "Motown: The Musical" has its official opening night April 14.
