Michigan guard Trey Burke picked up another honor Tuesday, as he was named national player of the year by Sports Illustrated.
With the honor, Burke becomes Michigan's first national player of the year since Cazzie Russell in 1966.
Burke, a sophomore point guard, is averaging 19.2 points and 6.7 assists this season, helping the Wolverines (26-7) secure a top-10 ranking each week in the polls. U-M faces South Dakota State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Joining Burke on the SI All-America team are Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State), Doug McDermott (Creighton), Kelly Olynyk (Gonzaga) and Cody Zeller (Indiana).
Burke was named first-team All-America by the United State Basketball Writers Association on Monday and the Sporting News last week. He was selected Big Ten player of the year and a unanimous selection for the All-Big Ten team by coaches and media.
He also is a finalist for several awards for national player of the year: the Oscar Robertson Award, the John Wooden Award and the Naismith Award. Burke is also up for the Bob Cousy Award (nation's best point guard).
