The fourth installment in the "Transformers" franchise will begin shooting in Metro Detroit this spring, the Michigan Film Office announced Wednesday.
The movie is a follow up to 2011's "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which was also shot here along with the first film that was released in 2007.
The fourth installment of the Michael Bay-directed series was awarded an incentive of $20 million on $81,933,992 of projected in-state expenditures. Filmmakers expect to hire 368 Michigan workers for the production.
"This would be the biggest project for this fiscal year (which started in October)," says Margaret O'Riley, director of the Michigan Film Office, of the yet untitled "Transformers" sequel.
Since October, 13 projects have been awarded nearly $31 million on $120,172,305 of approved production expenditures. O'Riley says they have a budget of about $58 million for the fiscal year. She adds that the $20 million for "Transformers 4" also is the largest amount awarded since January 2012 when the incentives cap went into effect.
MovieWeb is reporting production also will take place in Chicago this summer, and Digital Spy is reporting Josh Duhamel may cameo in the film that stars Mark Wahlberg and Irish actor Jack Reynor.
