Actress Cummings will host the event. (Mittens for Detroit)
Saturday night's "Giggles & Gloves" at MGM Grand Detroit will offer an evening of laughs and a chance to help less fortunate people in your community.
The third annual event starring stand-up comic Mike Young benefits Mittens for Detroit, which actress and event host Erin Cummings started after filming the short-lived cop show "Detroit 1-8-7" here. The charity supplies new gloves and mittens — so far around 30,000 over three years — to children and adults in Metro Detroit.
This year, Cummings says, "Broner Hat & Glove from Auburn Hills is donating a pair of gloves for every ticket sold." She adds money raised from a silent auction of about 40 items, including salon products, restaurant gift certificates, concert tickets and more, will be used to purchase gloves.
"Giggles" also will hold a raffle ($5 per ticket, $25 for an arm's length) for a few unique items, such as a Detroit Red Wings jersey signed by the entire 2011-12 team. And, says Cummings, "Wayne County has donated their suite at the Comerica Park for a regular season home game that includes 18 tickets and free parking passes."
As for the entertainment: Young, a Detroit native, has a big year ahead of him with the release of "My Man Is a Loser," a film he wrote and directed that stars John Stamos, Sean Young and Michael Rapaport. Also performing is Detroit comic Dwayne Gill, a Michigan State Police officer.
Look for the actress on the big screen this summer in "The Iceman." Partially shot in Detroit, the film stars Oscar nominee Michael Shannon as notorious hit man Richard Kuklinski.
