Detroit — Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon is expected to formally announce his bid for mayor of Detroit at an event at the Masonic Temple's Crystal Ballroom on Tuesday.
Napoleon, a former Detroit police chief who has served as sheriff since 2009, announced in December he was testing the waters for a possible mayoral run.
The race includes former Detroit Medical Center CEO Mike Duggan; state Rep. Fred Durhal; former state Rep. Lisa Howze; and former Detroit corporation counsel Krystal Crittendon. Mayor Dave Bing has not announced whether he intends to run for re-election.
Warrant requests filed after fight
Detroit — The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office received warrant requests regarding WJBK-TV's Charlie LeDuff and a security guard who has accused the reporter of attacking him in an alleged drunken brawl during the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Corktown.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday it received cross-complaining warrant requests involving LeDuff and the unnamed, 58-year-old guard, who said in a police report that LeDuff bit his finger after confronting him for publicly urinating March 10 at Brooklyn Street and Michigan Avenue.
LeDuff, a former reporter with The Detroit News, has said he did not recall the public urination and that an offer to have a drink turned into a fist fight.
Deer bolts from trunk past officer
Kalamazoo — A Kalamazoo public safety officer checking a suspicious car parked behind a motel early Tuesday discovered a deer, which climbed from the trunk, stumbled on the pavement and bolted into nearby woods.
The car's driver told Officer David Miller he had killed the deer in a collision. The driver also said he was taking it home to feed meat from the carcass to his family.
A camera mounted in a Kalamazoo squad car shows the deer climbing out rear-first.
3 more infections in state tied to steroids
Traverse City — Michigan health officials reported three more infections as a result of contaminated steroids supplied by a Massachusetts pharmaceutical company.
The Michigan Department of Community Health said at least 261 people have contracted illnesses including fungal meningitis that are part of a national disease outbreak. The Michigan death toll remains at 17.

A man, 40, was fatally assaulted late Sunday during an argument in the 5000 block of Casper, Detroit police said. Four other homicides and five nonfatal shootings also reported.
