A Detroit man who tried to rob a White Castle Tuesday afternoon was arrested less than two minutes after pulling a gun on employees.
Milton Eugene McClain was arraigned one count of armed robbery and one count of felony firearm before 46th District Court Magistrate Cynthia Arvant on Wednesday afternoon.
He remains in custody after being unable to post a $100,000 cash or surety bond. His next court date is March 25.
According to Lt. Nick Loussia, the incident occurred at about 2 p.m. when McClain, the 36-year-old alleged hamburglar, entered the White Castle, located in 23000 block of Telegraph near Nine Mile, looking for a sack of "mighty whiteys" and some cash.
"He said, 'I'll have some burgers and all the money in the register," Loussia said. "Another employee overheard him and called 911. Our dispatcher immediately put it out and one of our sergeants said he was in the area.
"Then two more officers told dispatch they were also in the area."
The three officers saw the suspect sprint out the restaurant carrying a cash drawer and a weapon that later proved to be a .25 caliber handgun.
"He saw the officers, dropped the drawer and ran eastbound across Telegraph," Loussia said. "He was surrounded and captured without incident. From the time the call came in to the time he was arrested was less than two minutes."
