Detroit — A Novi police detective shot a suspect multiple times during a sting operation Thursday morning on the city's northwest side.
The Novi Police Department, in coordination with the United States Secret Service, has been investigating thousands of dollars worth of fraudulent auto parts purchases from Metro Detroit car dealerships for several weeks, officials said in a news release.
The investigation came to a head around 9 a.m. Thursday near Warren Road and Grandville Street when law enforcement officers coordinated an operation involving delivery of auto parts to suspects.
After the transaction was completed, officers announced it was a sting. One suspect surrendered and was taken into custody, but a second suspect entered a vehicle and attempted to run over a Novi detective, police said. The detective fired shots at the suspect, who fled in the vehicle. Michigan State Police pursued the suspect, who crashed near Piedmont Street and Plymouth Road. The suspect attempted to run away when he was apprehended by state troopers, and was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds.
No other injuries were reported. The Detroit Police Department is handling the shooting investigation.
