It gives me great pleasure to congratulate a good man and a good friend, John Dingell, on becoming the longest-serving member of the United States House of Representatives.
During his distinguished career spanning such aconsiderable breadth of our nation's history, John has been a leader who has always been true to his principles —and, I found, true to his word as well. Our work together to safeguard our environment through the Clean Air Act of1990 was one of the genuine highlights of my presidency, and yet it was just one of the countless times John hasreached across the political aisle to accomplish something good for his constituents and our country.
In short, JohnDingell is a credit to the venerable institution that is the U.S. House of Representatives — and Barbara joins me insaluting him for his enduring public service with integrity.
