Southfield – — Dozens of employers participated Tuesday in a job fair for military veterans and spouses at the Southfield Pavilion.
“Hiring Our Heroes — Southfield” was sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the University of Phoenix. Participants included some of the country’s biggest employers and small companies from Metro Detroit.
The job fair included an employment workshop, sponsored by the University of Phoenix, that offered resume assistance, job search tools, and interviewing techniques.
According to the Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Hiring Our Heroes has helped 20,200 veterans and military spouses find jobs through more than 600 hiring fairs since March 2011.
Last year, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Chamber Foundation, and Capital One began a campaign seeking a commitment from employers nationwide to hire half a million veterans and military spouses by the end of 2014.
So far, more than 1,000 businesses have pledged to hire 235,000 people toward that goal.
