Tigers left-handed reliever Phil Coke, who was not on the roster for the American League Division Series, will be active for the ALCS, replacing Luke Putkonen.
Coke, one of the bullpen stalwarts in last season’s run toward the World Series, has struggled this season. Leyland has used him situationally — almost exclusively against left-handed batters — to mixed success.
He allowed three earned runs in his last appearance, an 8-0 loss to Seattle on Sept. 18. After that, Coke was shut down for the remainder of the regular season. Overall, he allowed 23 earned runs and 43 hits for a 5.40 ERA.
Right-handed reliever Bruce Rondon (soreness, right throwing elbow) was not on the roster.
