A construction worker who tried to stop a man from allegedly stealing equipment from the site was injured Monday when he was hit as the man attempted to flee the scene, according to Eastpointe police.
Officers were called to the area of Eight Mile and Gratiot for an aggravated assault with a vehicle, police said.
A man entered a construction zone, picked up a concrete saw and made his way to his vehicle. Police said a construction worker grabbed the vehicle to try to stop the man from leaving with the expensive piece of equipment.
The man drove the vehicle into the construction area to remove the worker from the car, injuring him, and then drove away with the saw, police said.
The worker was taken to the hospital with what police said they believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
The thief is described a man in his 30s or 40s with a heavy build. His vehicle is described as a red- or burgundy-colored, ’90s model Chevrolet Beretta.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Eastpointe police at (586) 445-5100 ext. 1.
