Brighton — Frankenbarrel? A Nightmare on Grand River?
It doesn’t matter what you call it, this 11-foot-tall Halloween orange and white mutant is stopping traffic at the Michigan Department of Transportation garage in Brighton.
“A lot of people stop and take photos, that’s for sure,” said Mike Golip, a garage employee who built the creature from damaged barrels headed for the scrap heap. “I made it a couple of years ago for a scarecrow contest they held in Brighton. Since then, he’s been out of sight, standing guard in our north yard.
“This is the first time it’s been on display in a couple of years.”
According to Golip, the barrel beastie doesn’t really have a name.
“We just call it barrel monster, barrel dude or barrel whatever,” Golip said. “He’s just a guy at the garage who likes hangin’ out.”
