Nirvana, Ronstadt on list of Rock Hall nominees
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame could get a little grungy next year. Nirvana is among the 16 nominees for entry into the Rock Hall’s Class of 2014, the group announced Wednesday. Also on the list: Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, Hall & Oates, the Replacements, Yes, Link Wray, the Zombies, Kiss, LL Cool J, N.W.A., Cat Stevens, Deep Purple, the Meters, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and Chic. Inductees will be announced in December, and the ceremony takes place in April in New York.
Eminem enlists for 'SNL' duty
Eminem will be up late on Nov. 2. The rapper is scheduled to perform that night on “Saturday Night Live,” NBC announced Wednesday. “Scandal” star Kerry Washington is set to host the episode. The appearance, which comes three days before Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” hits stores, marks Em’s sixth appearance on the late night sketch comedy show. He first performed on “SNL” in 1999, and returned in 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2010. The day after his “SNL” appearance, Em is set to appear on the first-ever YouTube Music Awards, which will take place in New York. Earlier this week, Eminem released “Rap God,” the third offering from “The Marshall Mathers LP 2.”
Nikki Minaj teams with Kmart for clothing line
Nikki Minaj has unveiled a new clothing line for Kmart. The rapper told “Good Morning America” on Wednesday the line is “fashionable and sexy” and expands the boundaries of what is currently available at Kmart. “I wanted to do something that would take Kmart to another level and make girls like me think that we could shop here,” she said. The line includes crop tops, leggings, dresses, jewelry, caps and track suits, and range in price from $3.99 for a studded bracelet to $37.99 for a jean jacket.
Miley hits No. 1
All that promotion worked: Miley Cyrus debuts at No. 1 on this week’s Billboard 200 albums chart, as her “Bangerz” sold a better-than-expected 270,000 copies its first week of release. (Earlier in the week, “Bangerz” was projected to sell around 250,000 copies.) Panic at the Disco, Drake, Pusha T and Justin Timberlake round out the top five. Meanwhile, Lorde’s “Royals” rules the Hot 100 singles chart for a third straight week.
