Detroit Denby pummeled Detroit Central into submission, 46-0, in a Detroit Public School League football game Thursday.
Denby (6-2) picked up its play following a loss to Detroit King last week and clinched its first playoff spot in six years.
Unlike the previous week, Denby got a strong push from the defensive front.
The onslaught began when Mark Boston returned an interception for a touchdown. Next, Duwan Brown, who finished with six tackles, blocked a punt and ran it in for a score.
Zaquan Smith (10 tackles) finished the scoring with a 39-yard touchdown reception.
Boston also ran for 85 yards on eight carries.
Dearborn Heights Robichaud 28, Henry Ford 8: Lamar Calvin had six catches for 117 yards and a touchdown, and Shaquille Martin went 9-for-17 for 156 yards and two scores for Robichaud (5-3). Henry Ford fell to 0-8.
Detroit Cody 32, Detroit Pershing 0: Jayvonte Ball rushed for 144 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns, DaJohn Strange had 11 tackles, including six sacks, and Derrick Carter returned a fumble for a score for Cody (5-3). Pershing fell to 1-7.
Detroit Northwestern 18, Detroit Osborn 14: DeAndre May had four catches for 106 yards, along with two interceptions and a touchdown, while Jeremiah Harris had 11 rushes for 89 yards and a two-point conversion for Osborn (2-6). Northwestern is 5-3.
Detroit Renaissance 54, Detroit Douglas 0: Maliek Phillips rushed for 106 yards on four carries with three touchdowns, Dwight Harvey Jr. ran for 56 yards on six carries with two touchdowns, and CamRon Starks returned a 26-yard interception for a score for Renaissance (5-3).
Detroit Southeastern 27, Detroit Western 16: Kenneth Stokes ran for 102 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns, and made 13 tackles, including four for a loss, and forced a fumble. Lawrence Canadacy recorded two sacks and three pass-breakups for Southeastern (3-5, 2-4 PSL East). Western fell to 3-5, 2-4 (PSL West).
Birmingham Roeper 3, Royal Oak Shrine 2: Max Whipple had two goals and Simon Reonnecke scored the winner with one minute remaining for Roeper (16-4) in a Catholic League district semifinal. Shrine finished 18-2.
Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook def. Allen Park Cabrini 25-21, 25-13, 25-22: Margaret Payne had 13 kills and four aces and Meg Harney had 28 assists as Cranbrook (52-14) clinched the Catholic League D championship.
Detroit Renaissance def. Detroit King (25-21, 25-7, 17-25, 25-19): Arielle Sears had two aces, 10 kills and 39 assists, and Tristyn Walton had two aces, 11 kills and 19 digs for Renaissance (33-2, 9-0 PSL West) in a PSL semifinal. King is 7-2. The championship match will take place next Thursday at Western High School.
