Detroit — Jeff Janis had touchdown catches of 18 and 38 yards in the fourth quarter to lead visiting Saginaw Valley State to a come-from-behind 14-10 victory over Wayne State in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.
Wayne State (3-4, 3-3 GLIAC) led 10-0 going into the fourth quarter on Doug Griffin’s second quarter 4-yard touchdown run and Stefan Terleckyj’s 41-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Saginaw Valley quarterback Jonathon Jennings went to work, connecting with Janis for an 18-yard strike with 11:31 left. Three minutes later, Jennings found Janis again for a 38-yard TD pass.
Jennings was 22-of-32 for 259 yards passing for Saginaw Valley (6-1, 6-0 GLIAC). Janis had seven catches for 139 yards.
Michigan Tech 33, (at) Northwood 31: Jordan McConnell’s 6-yard TD catch with no time remaining lifted Michigan Tech (4-2, 4-2 GLIAC) to victory. Northwood (2-5, 1-4) took a short-lived four-point lead on Dan Richmond’s 26-yard touchdown catch with 56 seconds left before Tech QB Tyler Scarlett connected with McConnell for the game-winning score.
Charlie Leffingwell scored on touchdown runs of 5 and 14 yards en route to a career-high 221 yards rushing on 39 carries for Tech.
(At) Hillsdale 45, Ferris State 38: Quarterback Sam Landry threw for 355 yards and four touchdowns for Hillsdale (4-3, 4-1 GLIAC). Joe Srebernak, who scored the game-winning touchdown on a 14-yard reception with 29 seconds left, finished with seven catches for 97 yards for the hosts. Jason Vander Laan rushed for two touchdowns and was 13-of-23 passing for 167 yards for Ferris State (4-3, 4-2).
(At) Grand Valley State 48, Northern Michigan 17: Michael Ratay scored on TD runs of 11 and 1 yards as part of a 143-yard rushing performance as Grand Valley State (5-2, 3-2 GLIAC) romped to victory. Grand Valley quarterback Isiah Grimes was 13-of-22 for 240 yards passing, including two touchdowns. Marcus Tucker had six catches for 111 yards and a TD for Northern Michigan (1-5,1-5 GLIAC).
Adrian 14 (at) Trine 9: Dae’Von Robinson’s 15-yard TD run in the third quarter stood up as Adrian (6-1, 3-0 MIAA) outlasted Trine (3-4, 0-3) in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. Jos Delaney’s 5-yard TD catch from quarterback Aaron Tenney in the third quarter put Adrian up 7-3. Trine scored on a 4-yard pass play from Andrew Dee to Jared Barton and added a two-point conversion with 3:39 left.
Hope 43, (at) Alma 23: Shawn Jackson had TD runs of 7 and 10 yards and Vincent Body had a 90-yard kickoff return for Hope (5-2, 2-1 MIAA). Alma quarterback Jarrett Leister was 28-of-53 for 262 yards passing, including two TDs, but threw four interceptions. Alma is 0-7.
Albion 31, (at) Kalamazoo 21: Darrin Williams scored on TD runs of 37 and 2 yards for Albion (4-2, 2-0 MIAA), which led 24-7 at the half. Williams finished with 122 yards on 29 carries. Quarterback Justin Danzy was 38-of-58 for 415 yards passing with two touchdowns for Kalamazoo (3-3, 1-1).
