A 30-year-old man is dead following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon on the Lodge Freeway near Eight Mile.
At about 1:45 p.m., a 21-year-old male driver of a 1995 Chevy pickup pulled over to the median lane wall of the southbound Lodge, to make adjustments to cargo that was shifting in the bed, said Lt. Nate McQueen of the Michigan State Police.
A second vehicle coming around the curve was unable to stop and hit the truck, the driver and the 30-year-old male passenger, who also had gotten out of the vehicle to adjust the load. The 21-year-old was seriously injured and taken to Sinai Grace Hospital. The 30-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of the families.
The driver of the second vehicle suffered injuries and was and taken to Sinai Grace Hospital.
Michigan State Police reopened southbound lanes of the Lodge at Eight Mile around 5 p.m..
