Grand Rapids — The Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park has set an opening date for a $22 million Japanese garden on its western Michigan grounds.
Meijer Gardens announced Thursday that a private dedication ceremony is planned June 10, 2015, for “The Richard and Helen DeVos Japanese Garden.” It’s scheduled to open for Meijer Gardens’ members on June 11-12, 2015, and to the public on June 13, 2015.
Plans for the 8 1/2-acre garden were announced in 2012. It’s named in recognition of Amway co-founder Richard DeVos Sr. and his wife, Helen, who are helping fund the project.
Construction is taking place, and public tours of the site take place Saturday and Sunday. Zen-style, moss and bonsai gardens are planned, as well as bridges, waterfalls and a tea house.
